Hypnosis For Pain Management

ARE YOU TIRED OF SUFFERING FROM CHRONIC OR LONG TERM DEBILITATING PAIN?

HYPNOSIS CAN HELP!

DID YOU KNOW THAT…..

In the last decade there has been an increase in pain medication prescriptions by as much as 400%. It is most often the person to whom the pain medication is prescribed (for a legitimate medical reason) that can become physically dependent on that same pain medication. According to statistics, an estimated eight and a half million Americans abuse pain medication, and according to Jim Davis of The New Mexico Department of Health, more people now die from an overdose of prescription drugs than they do from the use of illegal drugs, such as heroin or cocaine. According to a report from the Drug Enforcement Administration, prescription drug overdoses are now the leading cause of injury death in the United States.

STRESS, ANXIETY, DEPRESSION AND CHRONIC PAIN….

Stress, pain, anxiety and eventual depression are intimately related to chronic pain. Being in pain causes stress, and Man With Back Painthat very same stress, intensifies pain. A recent survey done by members of a national self-help organization showed that fifty percent of people reported inadequate pain relief from their medication, and they identified depression as one of the worst problems caused by their chronic pain.

Because of this “Multiplying Effect”, fifty percent reported that they had considered suicide due to feelings of hopelessness associated with their pain. In actual studies done, nineteen percent reported thinking about suicide, thirteen percent had active thoughts of committing suicide, five percent had a current suicide plan, and an additional five percent reported a previous suicide attempt. Sadly and ironically, seventy-percent of those people had planned to use an opiate-based medication overdose as a means to end their lives.

POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD) AND CHRONIC PAIN…..

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) often co-occurs and can exacerbate chronic pain. In one study done, out of 129 consecutive out-patient combat veterans with PTSD, 80% reported chronic pain.

Subjects with PTSD also exhibited higher rates of chronic pain along with more intense chronic pain, and the severity of the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder PTSD correlated accordingly with the chronic pain severity.

INSOMNIA AND CHRONIC PAIN…..

Sleepless Man In BedPain and sleep are integrally connected. When one is suffering from intense and chronic pain, a proper nights sleep will come with great difficulty. Chronic sleep deprivation can lower ones pain threshold along with ones tolerance for pain, and make the existing pain feel even worse. This of course will inevitably lead to an even poorer quality of sleep. Chronic sleep loss can lead to serious health problems such as: Heart disease, heat attacks, heart failure, irregular heart beat, high blood pressure, stroke and diabetes.

HOW HYPNOSIS CAN HELP….. Happy Couple

Numerous research studies have shown medical hypnosis to be effective for both acute and chronic pain. According to research, the science of hypnosis utilizes three out of the four elements of what we can do (outside of taking opiate-based medications) to reduce pain. Those key elements include breathing, relaxation and autogenic training and self-hypnosis. Autogenic training and self-hypnosis incorporate visual imagery and body awareness to achieve relaxation. Once learned, individuals can practice self-hypnosis and autogenic training on their own.
